The Freedom of Information Unit (FOIU) was officially established in 2001 to oversee the operations of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). As a Unit our main functions fall into three categories:
TRAIN
- Train and sensitise public officers on their roles and responsibilities under the Act
- Educate the public on their rights to access information
MONITOR AND EVALUATE
- Develop a monitoring and evaluation framework for the Act
- Conduct research on the administration of the Act and make recommendations for improvement
- Provide policy advice to the executive and other external clients
ASSIST
- Assist members of the public in making requests
- Assist public officials with queries pertaining to the Act
